Yellow Journalism

“Amid unemployment and inequality, is the American Dream at risk?”

This is the first news title I was greeted with this morning, as I began my daily browse of doom and gloom… also known as the news.

Ah how our media has such a potency to put a damper on things, it fascinates me to the point of reviving my interest in the history of yellow journalism. You see I believe there has been a resurgence of this plague, worse than the infection of yellow fever transmitted through mosquito bites. Yet, like a virus, yellow journalism has evolved from transmission through newspapers to transmission through social media, the internet, and television. The plague is upon us, and we soak it all in, we infect ourselves without a second thought.

Many may think they are impervious to this disease, yet it is everywhere, in every form.
An example: I currently work at a health store, and it fascinates me to observe customers when they come in (literally in hoards) all looking for the exact same product… why you ask, because Dr. Oz said so.
Another example: It baffles me, when in the midst of a conversation of politics or religion or the sort, if a person is less knowledgeable on the topic than another, they will quickly pull out their smart phone and Wikipedia the topic at hand. I personally take offense to such tactics, as I have spent years studying, dissecting, comprehending certain topics, yet a person feels they are adept to oppose my views with a simple article found on wiki or google in the last five minutes!?

Ahh, yellow journalism how you plague us, you plague us all. I am often asked, “Priscylla, if I want to start looking into the news and what is going on around the world, where should I begin?” and to this I often respond, “Start at all the major news locales, liberal and conservative alike, comprehend what they’re saying and realize they are all biased and full of shit.” This is what we have come to, the inability to take anything for what it says it is…

…it is with this mindset that this morning I had to read the title above and brush it off. If the American Dream were truly at risk, would the occupy rallies be occurring as we speak? If the American Dream were truly at risk, would we as a nation even be speaking of such an atrocity?

No the American Dream is not at risk and no I have not been infected by the yellow journalism plague. So I say to you, dream on America, dream on and inoculate yourself from this yellow journalism disease.

THIS is Pure Lunacy.
