I teach well over 100 students every semester.
Every semester I notice a similar trend.
The complete and utter disenchantment with the US political system and political parties.
I have students from all ranges of life.
I have students fresh out of high school.
I have retired students returning to upper education after 30+ years in a given profession
Below are but a few quotes of their disillusionment:
“It is my opinion that both parties have public positions and private positions. Their public positions are used to pull people in and allow them to be viewed as trustworthy, while the private positions reveal themselves after their narrative has been met…”
“neither party has the people’s best interest at hand…”
“another problem I faced this year was lack of trustworthy choices…”
“I felt that both parties have some opinions I agreed with, I also felt they were both tainted and not trustworthy…”
Time and time again the disenchantment sustains itself across the board.
Young and old alike have come to detest our US political party system.
The bitterness is equally doled out to Republicans and Democrats alike.
The cynicism perceived of each party palpable in class and online discussions.
To my political colleagues, to my party loyalists, to my politically elected officials, take note:
The American voters are at their wits end with the two political parties in America.
This is not about “us against them”.
This has turned into a house divided, into ‘us against us’.
What will you do to rectify this?
Remember, nothing changes if nothing changes.
Political parties, Republicans and Democrats, take heed.
Change or the American populace will do it for you.
